Rob Owen

I'm Rob Owen and I've been a driving instructor for six years, the last four of which I've been with Go For It.

I'm married with three grown-up children, two daughters and a son.

For thirty years, before becoming a driving instructor, I was a farmer, mainly dairy but in the early years more mixed with potatoes, cereals and beef as well. I love animals and when I sold my herd in 2000 I kept two of my most friendly cows as pets - Dozey and Ginge!

Sadly Dozey has passed on but Ginge is still going strong at 19 years old - about 100 in cow years!

During the whole of the seventies I was a keen road rally driver and a member of the Pembrokeshire Motor Club and in 1978 won the driver's championship. These days I enjoy watching motorsport, especially rallying and Lewis Hamilton has revived my interest in Formula 1.

Other interests include music, having played a guitar in a rock/pop band many years ago and now I'm a member of a mixed choir of about thirty voices. I also enjoy reading and still keep my hand in with a bit of farming when time allows.

Going back to driving instruction, I - like the other Go For It instructors I'm sure - endeavour to teach pupils not only to pass the test but to become safe, well rounded drivers who think things through for themselves. One of the most often asked questions is "How many lessons will I need to pass my test?" But the test is only the basic standard that must be achieved before a pupil can go out on their own.

I would like to think that when my pupils pass their test that they are good enough and safe enough to survive long enough to gain the experience that is so necessary to make them a competent driver for the rest of their lives.

I'm sure this is the aim of the entire Go For It team so if you choose us you will be taking a very good first step!

I live in Nolton, in the middle of St. Brides Bay, and cover mainly the area from St. Davids - Haverfordwest - Milford Haven.
